Return to Work Programmes

Manchester Physio's Return-to-Work Rehabilitation Programme is designed for individuals who have suffered an accident or injury and who may experience difficulty resuming their previous employment.

The return to work programme is very cost effective when compared with the costs of absenteeism and redundancy.

Initial Assessment

The Return to Work programme begins with a detailed history, a physical assessment and a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) of the current abilities and limitations of an individual. FCA scores are also generated and documented at all further treatment sessions to allow the physiotherapist, the individual and the employer to monitor the progress of the individual.

Following the initial assessment short and long term goals are discussed, agreed and set between the physiotherapist and the individual.

Manchester Physio perform return to work programmes treatment in a variety of settings:
  • Clinic Appointments
  • Gym Sessions
  • Home Visits
  • Hydrotherapy
The location of appointments is dependent on the mobility of the patient, the severity of the injury / condition, previous occupation and previous activity levels of the patient.

A tailor-made treatment plan is devised to specifically meet the needs of each individual. On-going treatment sessions are focussed on empowering the individual with motivation and independence for their own future health and wellbeing.

Treatment can consist of the following treatment types:
  • Education
  • Manual Handling and Postural / Ergonomic Advice
  • Specific work conditioning
  • Exercise programmes
  • Electrotherapy
  • Manipulation and Mobilisation
  • Acupuncture

Final Report

At the end of the programme a final report provides a summary of treatment, goals, and FCA scores throughout treatment. The final report outlines whether any further medical or therapeutic intervention is required, the capacity of which the patient can return to work (if not full duties) and if any equipment required to allow the individual to return to work.

"I had been having back problems for years and tried so many different treatments but with no success. I saw a physio at Manchester Physio and felt an improvement after just 2 sessions. I would recommend anyone needing a physiotherapist here!"
